One month. Tyler had survived one whole month at the Institute. He'd expected to get bored after a few days and here he was, practically a veteran! If that wasn't cause for celebration, he didn't know what was.
So what was Tyler's idea of celebrating? Well, he'd planned to go visit Donnie and the other people in his neighborhood, but he didn't have a car and the bus was always so slow and it was too far to walk even while sped-up. Besides, he wasn't sure if he was even allowed to take off on a school night, not that that had stopped him before. So he would go visit over the weekend when he could catch a ride with someone or at least would have time to take the bus.
Other than that, Tyler couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the occasion than with a water bottle full of vodka and fruit punch, sitting in front of a movie in the rec room. He'd picked I Spy because he'd seen it before so it was okay if he didn't pay much attention. He never could sit through a whole movie, so maybe he'd head upstairs in a bit to give himself a new tattoo before he was too tipsy.

Jasmine could feel a strange mixture of emotions. She was new here, so there was the general curiosity that always erupted around her when she was surrounded by others. She was a little tired of it. She didn’t like the usual predictable emotions. That was why she was drawn to the recreation room. There was only one person in there. There was an idle mockery, someone perhaps, thinking of breaking a rule? As well as a lot of boredom.
She was wearing a mid-thigh-length skirt. It was sleek and black. Her upper body was adorned with the green top she’d been wearing that afternoon. It was only her first day, but she was already wearing her hair loose around her shoulders and her feet were bare. She walked into the room quietly, monitoring his emotions carefully. “Hello.” She said in a low, optimistic voice.

He looked up from the TV toward the voice and, glad that it wasn't a teacher there to yell at him about the booze, gave the girl a broad grin. She was cute. "Hey." His feet had been propped up on the coffee table, but he pulled them up to sit cross-legged on the couch so she could get by.
Tyler was wearing baggy black jeans and a black wifebeater that showed a portion of a red and black dragon coming down his right shoulder. He pushed some heavily gelled hair out of his eyes and grinned up at her. "I saw you come in today. You're new, right?" He tipped the water bottle back, then set it down on the table. "I'm Tyler."

Jasmine smiled as she curiously pushed out her powers to sense him better. There was a sense of relief there somewhere. She didn't understand why until she saw him tip the water bottle back and put it on the table. Ah. So he wasn't supposed to be drinking? That made sense. She just smiled, not going to say anything.
She picked her way over to the couch where he was sitting and she sat down near him. She was surprised by the red and black dragon that seemed to creep out from under his wifebeater, but she shrugged it off. If he wanted a tattoo, that was his choice. In fact, it looked rather good. "Yeah, I'm Jasmine," She replied easily. "Is that your birth name, or your other name?" She asked quietly, still smiling.

Tyler laughed lightly. "Well, I think Tyler would make a kinda lame mutant name, wouldn't it?" he pointed out. "My other name's Click." He studied her curiously. He loved most things, but he especially loved meeting new people, especially friendly ones. Jasmine seemed plenty friendly. Quiet, but nice.
"So what about you? You don't sound like you're from around here. What brought you all this way?" He leaned back against the arm of the couch and pushed at his lip ring with his tongue. He was always fidgetting with it. Just part of not being able to sit still, he supposed.

Jasmine laughed. "click..." She repeated, rolling the name over her tongue. "I like it." She could feel his curiosity about her. It was interesting. She was used to the overwhelming curiosity that bugged her when she was surrounded by people, but this was nice. It was gently pushing at her mind, nudging at her. It was different.
"Me?" She laughed again. "Nothing important really. I'm from Australia. I just heard about this chool and I wanted to come. That's all." She said with a smile. "What about you? How long have you been here?"

Tyler gave a triumphant smile and lifted his water bottle again. "Today I'm celebrating my one month anniversary here!" he announced, "The longest I've stayed in one place in as long as I can remember!" He tipped the bottle toward her in a mock toast, then took another sip, big enough that he grimaced slightly as he put it back down.
He exuded happiness and excitement incessantly, like someone else on the happiest day of his or her life... except this was just another day for Tyler. He was always that happy. Booze or not, he had an almost childish air about him. "So what're your powers? Are you any good with them yet?" he asked.

Jasmine liked this guy. It was a strange combination- he was tattooed and alcoholic and... different. And she was in floaty, serene clothes and she seemed to radiate vitality. However, she was drawn to him. He was exuding (ooc: Thats a really good word. ex-u-ding. lol bic:) happiness. For someone who picked up on that, it was nice. She was tempted to follow him around just so she could feel this happy all the time.
She smiled as he asked about her powers. "Powers? Well, I think I'm good. I read -well, feel emotions. I feel what people around me feel. And if I have to I can make them go... sort of numb. But I only do that when someone is in pain." She explained. "What about you?"

His eyes went wide at the mention of her powers and his subconscious gave a stab of yearning that he didn't quite understand. He didn't let himself understand. She had the ability to do what he'd made his whole life about: taking away people's pain. He stumbled a moment on his response, shaken by motives that he didn't know he had.
"Oh, um, I speed up my molecules so that I'm going faster than everyone else. So fast they can't see me," Tyler told her. He loved his powers, but they seemed almost pointless in the face of hers.

Jasmine felt the yearning shoot through him and she felt, slightly proud and a little bad. She didn't want him to be unhappy about anything. he radiated happiness. She wished everyone would do that. She looked down, a little ashamed. She didn't want to make him unhappy.
She smiled serenely when he explained his powers. "That's a good power. You could do so much with that!" She closed her eyes, imagining him racing through a forest, or along a road. She could almost see his hair being blown by the wind. It was nice. "You could help so many people..."

Shrugging carelessly, Tyler admitted, "Yeah, I mean, I guess. I mostly use it for pranks and getting into bars. I'm not really the superhero type." He laughed lightly.
"So are you gonna start classes soon? You'll probably be in more advanced classes than me. I'm kinda behind. What're you taking?"

Jasmine smiled. "Yeah, I start tomorrow. I think I have Literature." She frowned, trying to remember her timetable. "That's all I remember." She said with a laugh. She didn't mean to, but when he mentioned being behind, her eyes flicked to his drink. She had been brought up with a strict taboo on alcohol. She saw him sitting there, drinking it like water, and she felt the strangest urge to try it, even though it was probably the reason he was so behind. "I could. Um. Tutor you if you want." She offered quietly.

His smile twisted into a mischievious smirk and his imagination started to run off with the possibilities associated with that. He was a teenage boy, after all, and she was a very pretty girl.
He saw her glance at the bottle and held it out in offering without a second thought. Finally, someone here who knew how to have a good time! "Yeah. That could be fun. I bet you're pretty smart, huh?" he supposed.

Jasmine blushed and tried to slow her power down so she couldn't feel what he felt. It hadn't worked in the past and it didn't work now. She gave a little laugh.
She looked at the botttle as he offered it and hesitated. She wanted to say NO, drinking was bad, but she couldn't help herself. She wanted him to accept her. She took it and hesitantly. She brought the bottle to her lips and tipped it up. The taste of the alcohol was funny. She didn't know if she liked it. It even burned her throat. She hiccuped a little and handed the bottle back with a giggle. "wow..."
She blushed again. "I'm not- I mean... I pass easily, but I'm not... street smart or anything." She admitted.

"Hey, passing's better than I can do," Tyler admitted with a smirk. He took the bottle and set it down, figuring that she wasn't exactly a seasoned drinker. It didn't matter to him. "And street smart just depends on what street you grew up on."
Propping his feet up on the coffee table, he fidgetted with one of his earrings. It was hard to stay still so long. "What was your old school like?" he asked. "Anything like this?"
