Character's Real Name: Kaz Walker
Character's Nickname/Mutant Name: Boogeyman
Character's Age: 17
Character's Gender: Male
Character's Occupation: Assassin
Human or Mutant?: Mutant
Is your character a Changeling?: No
Affliation: loosely affiliated with the Haven
Breaking up the next section since his powers are complicated:
Power: Astral Projection Kaz involuntarily teleports to the Astral Plane when he sleeps the same way the X-men went in the X-men Legends games: whole body, not just his mind as telepaths do. He can travel there during the day and transport others there at will, but transporting others takes more concentration and power. His power works the opposite way as well: if he wears himself out on the Plane, he is ejected and won't be able to return or use most powers until his body is rested or he falls asleep. If he uses energy to an extreme degree, he falls to an even lesser plane of existance and simply wanders dreams while his psyche tries to piece itself together, which can take months.
Power: Astral Manipulation While on the plane, Kaz can manipulate himself and others, as well as the plane to a minor degree (he can make the plane hold their legs in place, for example, or sense the emotions that make up the plane in a given area and make minor changes to peoples' moods; the latter is extremely imprecise--since you can't tell who's contributing to a given area of the plane--and is only used to "calm" the plane, however). Manipulating himself, whether to heal himself or make minor changes to his appearance, takes much less effort than healing others. Healing someone from serious injuries can spend so much energy that he loses access to all his powers and wanders dreams as described above.
Power: Teleportation Linked to his Astral Plane powers. When he teleports, he briefly glows bright blue and then vanishes to a new location. He travels through the astral plane to do this, but he's there such a small fraction of a second it doesn't really matter. if he teleports others, they also glow blue. unlike mutants like Nightcrawler, his teleporting effect happens BEFORE he teleports, giving his next move away to anyone who knows what he can do. Additionally, if he's teleporting back from the astral plane and the surface he was sleeping on has moved since he left (shifted blanket, whatever) the space will glow a moment before he shows up as his mutation adjusts for the shifted surface
Skill: Intimidation (/with Handguns) Kaz doesn't like to give away that he "kills" his victims by banishing them to the Astral Plane. He'd rather imply that he shoots them and he's just really good at disposing of evidence and bodies. He can use a gun, but he's not terribly good at it. He's much better at intimidating others, and is more confident when he has a gun in his hand
Character's History:
(I realise the Haven may not get its own board, but that doesn't mean it can't exist in this universe)
Kaz woke up one fine morning with bruises and bite marks all over his 17-yr-old body. He'd disappeared to the Astral Plane and panicked, causing the astral plane to react violently. When his parents asked about it, they thought he was making things up and that he sneaked out to fight another kid in the middle of the night or something. He was grounded, but over the course of the week his condition deteriorated as he was attacked night after night by the plane itself and demons of the astral plane. His parents tried staying up to catch him sneaking out, and even put a lock on his door, but it didn't work.
Then finally, one night, he was found on the Plane by the Shadow King, who offered to help him if Kaz would add demons to his army. Otherwise...he'd get fed to Shadow King's demons. Obviously he agreed. Shadow King healed Kaz's mysterious bruises and even amplified his powers, as well as granting Kaz control over them. But no matter how much Kaz begged and promised, he didn't fix Kaz's involuntary disappearances, because otherwise Kaz might never return to the plane.
Kaz appeared in his bedroom looking normal for the first time in a while...which started another huge fight with his confused and angry parents, who had seen him the night before covered in bruises and even having a hard time doing certain tasks.
He went to school that day and was stared at a lot, maybe even more than the people had stared about his bruises. A friend took him aside in the locker room during gym and told him he was a mutant too. Kaz freaked out, but eventually was persuaded that he had to be a mutant. He didn't know what to tell his parents. He went home that day and found people from the State there to ask him and his parents questions about possible abuse. They were very surprised to see none of the reported injuries, and soon left, but the experience scared him badly, and he knew if he didn't get the Shadow King what he wanted soon he'd wake up with bruises again and his parents might go to jail. He knew he needed to do something but he was scared to just run away.
But then his friend introduced him to the Haven, a place mostly frequented by area high schoolers, but occasionally younger mutants found out about it. Kaz was very nervous to be in a place with a bar, and extremely surprised when his friend offered to buy him a drink and the bartender didn't ask for an ID. but his friend told him it would make him feel better so he accepted the offer. That night a rather stupid mutant got upset with Dealer (owner of the place) when he figured out some of Dealer's drinks were addictive. He was going to wreck the place with his powers when a panicked kaz sent him to the astral plane. After a short talk with Dealer he was given a place to stay downstairs in exchange for protection for the Haven.
Its here that Kaz has been building contacts for his assassination career. Kaz will always choose a deserving target, even if it means trespassing on government property to banish a jail inmate to the Plane. Shadow King wants a new victim fairly often, and Kaz is terrified of him.
Character's Personality: Kaz really wants to be a good guy, but he knows deep down that if he had to banish an innocent person to the Plane to keep from going himself, he would. He's very protective of innocent people, but he thinks its peoples' own responsibility to figure out what they're getting into. As such, he never interferes when someone orders a drink at the Haven even though the drinks can be addictive and ruin that person's life. He's a bit of an escapist, so when things get really stressful he's been known to get friendly with the strippers and prostitutes at the Haven. He shows no mercy to people he considers evil, which makes him good at intimidating people when he waves his gun around, since it's very clear that he will shoot if they don't give him the information/goods/whatever he wants. Kaz often wishes he could go back to his parents, but it's probably better that the people at the Haven don't know who he's related to. He keeps a picture of them in his room at the Haven.
Character's Appearance: Kaz is pretty good-looking, and has no trouble convincing Dealer's girls to spend the night with him. He wears a trench coat, but it doesn't actually have much in it; it's just for show. He shaves only after he starts looking haggard but otherwise he's pretty clean. He doesn't excercise much but thanks to his manipulating abilities on the astral plane he usually looks as if he works out.
