Trying again

[Impulse]

The one thing Darren hadn't trained during his time in the Danger Room, was lengthening the rift in space for his portals. He could transport himself instantly anywhere, and with effort he could take someone else with him, assuming the portal didn't close on them and they would lose a leg. It hadn't happened yet, and he wasn't entirely sure it was possible, save for that one incident when he took only part of a car with him when he was six. It was probably more of a mental thing nowadays that the portal wouldn't close on someone. But he wanted to be sure he could open it for longer. He wanted to see if there were more uses for it. More ways he could be the hero his father always read about or saw in the movies.

Darren stood in the open field behind the school, his feet planted shoulderwidth apart and his hands in front of him. "Alright Darren. Let's see what you've got." He said to himself and forced a small ammount of energy in front of him, at least small by his standards. He could see a small blurry rift of space and time, and could already feel it closing. He put more energy into it. Slowly, the rift opened more. It area he broke in reality became larger, and through it he could see his dorm room more clearly. At the same time, the focus took it's toll on him.

Beneath his feet, the grass started to burn in a circle around him. The circle widened and deepend, creating a small crater that durned into durt beneath him as even the soil "melted" away under the heat and pressure of his energy. He suddenly let go of the rift and it vanished almost instantly. Darren fell to his knees, sweat beading down his face and he was panting as the earth beneath him steamed. "Not enough Darren..." He said to himself. "You aren't strong enough."

[Matthew Wilson]

Matt was walking past and stopped to see this boy just burn a massive hole into the ground. When he fell, Matt ran to him and looked down at him.
"Hey buddy, you ok there?" Matt asked, hoping the guy was alright.

[Impulse]

Darren cracked his neck as the newcomer came into his little circle of destruction. If Matt had showed up any sooner, he probably would have began dissintegrating as well under the heat and pressure of Darrens power. It was nigh uncontrollable and if loose, unstoppable. Since Darren was six he lived with this curse, and every day was miserable save for the short time he spent free of it thanks to the "Cure."

Darren slowly stood, his pants, shirt, leather jacket, and even his black leather gloves steaming still. He usually wore as much clothing as possible when he was testing his skill. It seemed the energy was only volatile to him once it was out of his body, meaning it started eating away from the outside first. Which, by his reckoning, if he wore a full outfit then the outfit would take the brunt force of the energy before his actual skin. "I'm fine." Darren said, nearly in a low growl. "Just don't touch me. My clothes are still rather hot."

[Matthew Wilson]

"Dude, after seeing that, I wouldn't want to!" Matt said as he looked at the guy who was steaming like a sauna.
"I'm Matt. Matt Wilson. I absorb powers, so I don't think we'll be shaking hands anytime soon." He joked as he sat on the ground too, a little too warm for his liking.

[Impulse]

"Power absorbtion." Darren said, thinking to himself as he finished catching his breath. "Good decision not to touch me then. You got the better deal, man." Darren said and slowly made his way out of his small crater. He ran a hand through his hair as the steam from his body trailed behind hiim, starting to dissipate.

"If you did touch me, you're story would be over quite quickly, I can guarantee that. I still nearly kill myself using this curse. And I've been trying to control it for most of my life. Came into it when I was six." Darren explained and then stopped in his tracks and turned back to face Matthew.

"Tell me. How much trouble have your gifts given you?"

[Matthew Wilson]

"Bro, if I could switch with anyone I would." Matt said as he looked at Darren.
"It's because of this power I can't get close to people I like. I'm living in fear of absorbing an unstable power. And I'm scared I can't control it." Matt said, looking away and down at the grass.

[Impulse]

Darren noticed that some people just didn't understand the kind of lives they were given. It bothered Darren a bit, but so far this guy wasn't causing any trouble for him, so he would try to be as nice as he can. "You should count your blessings. I'd kill for your power. At least then..." Darren looked down at his hands and they shook slightly. "At least then I could have chosen whether or not I wanted this. I'm afraid of getting close to people for fear of dissintegrating them if I lose focus for even a second, along with myself."

Darren dropped his hands, getting over his own sob story and narrowing his eyes at Matt. "And by the way. Don't call me bro." He said, his usual more angry self showing. He tried holding that side back, but it was one of his biggest defenses sometimes. Though, it seemed this guy had some clue what he was going through, even if Matt didn't really share the same curse. "The names Darren. You can call me Impulse if you want. And believe me. My power is as unstable as they come. I wouldn't recomend coming too close. No matter what other powers you may have now, this this will drain you of everything as you try to hold back the first few seconds of the pain. And once you've lost the will to hold on, it will engulf you, and everyone you care about. I doubt even Wolverine would make it out."

"Well... At least you can be with anyone you want. I can't be close to anyone. At least you have one power to control. I have the possibility of learning all powers. And trust me, it's not easy. You have it hard? Try wielding the elements, using telekinesis, teleportation. It's not easy." Matt said as he got and walked upto Darren.

"And besides, people don't look at you in a way of being a theif." Matt said, regarding his powers in the comment.
