Lydia walked down the street, her head down in an effort to keep the rain out of her eyes. It was difficult enough to see with the rain falling so heavily, she didn't need any other distractions. She still had to find enough money to buy herself something to eat anyway. Thankfully she didn't really need to see to do that.
Picking up the sound of someone walking quickly toward her, she shifted a step closer to the building so she'd bump into them. She had to do this exactly right or risk getting caught again. She saw his shoes - expensive looking, probably costing more than her life was worth - and a moment later felt his shoulder hit hers. Quicker than he could realize, her hand was in his jacket pocket and back out again, tucking his wallet away in the pocket of her jeans. Her head shot up and she made eye contact with him for a moment. "Sorry," she muttered, noting instantly that something had bothered him, most probably the yellow color of her eyes. He seemed about to say something, then thought better of it and continued on.
She smiled for a moment before becoming aware of a few other people on the street. Hoping none of them had figured out what she had just done she ducked into an alley and took shelter under a fire escape. It blocked some of the rain from hitting her, and would provide a good escape if anyone tried following her. Barely daring to breath, she listened carefully for the sound of footsteps or the muted smell of anyone.
